Vigiron began in 1994 as a joint venture between Agro-Iron, Inc. and The Vigoro Corporation. After Vigoro merged with IMC (now Mosaic corporation) in 1995, IMC divested from many joint ventures that were not core to its business, including Vigiron. Over 1993 to 1995, Vigiron’s founder, Chemical Engineer Lawrence Hjersted, was awarded 3 United States Patents for the manufacture and use of Iron Humate. An additional patent, for the manufacture of citrate soluble Iron Humate was awarded to the Vigoro Corporation in 1994, which was assigned to Vigiron at the time of IMC’s divestment.
